The Zero Room's Moonbase Applet

This page allows you to play a game based on the Doctor Who serial "The Moonbase", first broadcast in 1967.

The scenario here is that the Cybermen are quickly closing in on the moonbase. In order to destroy the Cyberfleet, you must bring the gravitron to bear on the surface of the moon. The objective is to input the correct magnitude and direction of the force vector. Too little force will have no effect on the Cybermen. Too much force will cause the Moonbase to implode. This, of course, would result in the Cybermen being denied their objective - possession of the gravitron - but would also result in your death and the death of the remaining crew of the Moonbase.

Of course, the initial instinct is to use 0 degrees as the angle. This will not work because most of the gravitron's force will be directed back at the moonbase. Increasing the angle will result in a decrease in the vertical component of the vector, so the angle must be higher than zero, but not so high that the gravitron will have no effect on the moon's surface.

INSTRUCTIONS: Input the force and angle of the gravitron in the text boxes, then hit the Submit button. Output is in the larger text window below the input boxes. At any time, to restart the game, hit "Restart".

And now, the applet:

The Moonbase applet would be here if you had Java.
