Doctor Who News

NEW - Doctor Who Videos Released

CBS/Fox has recently released a slew of Doctor Who videos recently. The most recent offerings are:

These videos are available in the Northeast corridor at most Borders Books and Music stores, as far as I know. Locally, they are available at Channel Thirteen's Store of Knowledge in the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ.

NEW - Fox Farts in Our Faces

By now, you've probably heard the news. The Doctor Who telemovie The Enemy Within will not be aired on New Year's Eve, but instead Fox will screen Revenge of the Nerds IV. No news yet if/when the movie will be rerun on >Fox, and the chances that Fox will exercise their option to go into production with a regular Doctor Who series seem very slim indeed.

On a more hopeful note, as an early Christmas present, here's my new Moonbase applet, in which the player must input the correct force and angle to disperse the Cyber fleet which has assembled on the surface of the moon. This is based on the 1967 Doctor Who adventure, The Moonbase.

Other applets available:

I am also in the process of putting together an episode guide which is more exhaustive than the one I originally made. It only contains the first two serials right now, but will expand in the future.

Another Who Fan Joins Effort to Save Who TV

For months, The Zero Room has been behind an effort to get Doctor Who back on NJN. Now, another fan hopes to persuade a small commercial UHF station in the Philadelphia area to air Doctor Who. If he is successful, Who will be back on the air in at least part of the NJN viewing area, which can't be bad. The idea of persuading commercial stations to air the program is not unrealistic. Doctor Who made its initial appearance on U.S. television in the 1970's when Time Life syndicated the show to independent stations in various markets. As recently as 1983, Doctor Who was aired locally on WWOR, Channel 9 (or was it WOR then?) on Saturday mornings. And more recently, the show was carried on the Sci-Fi channel. Also, if the show were aired in the Philly market, many people in Central and Northern New Jersey may be able to pick it up on cable (I believe there is a cable carrier in Essex County which carries WPHL, Channel 17, but I'm not sure what other Philly stations are on NJ cable systems). If you live in the Philly metro area, you may want to check this web page.

Another web site which may be worth checking is The Tardis, a page for writers of Doctor Who fiction. The author of this page tells me it has been recently remodeled.
