Missing Episode Information

What's missing?

Between 1972 and 1977, a number of Doctor Who episodes, most from the black and white era (1963-69), but some later episodes as well, were junked by the BBC. By the time it was all over, much was lost, some perhaps forever.

Since 1977, all of the Jon Pertwee episodes have been recovered, although in a variety of formats - 16mm film, PAL and NTSC. Although the BBC switched to all color in 1970, some of these episodes are available in black and white only, as they were recovered from countries still broadcasting in black and white. There are still a number of missing episodes from Seasons 1 through 6, the largest gaps being in Patrick Troughton's first two seasons (1966-68). The following table tracks the trashing and recovery of episodes over the years:

I have updated my episode guide to reflect the current status of the BBC archives vis-a-vis Doctor Who.

A very good article about the missing episodes was written by Paul Lee and is available at the University of York Multimedia Society web site.

Both Frontios and other sites have made available summaries and scripts of missing episodes. Now, you can get them here as well.

The Daleks

The Daleks made their first appearance on "Doctor Who" on December 28, 1963. Since then, they have become an entire industry, as indicated by the following information:

Bloopers

Here's the text version of Daniel O'Malley's bloopers list. It excludes many bloopers that were added to the HTML version of his bloopers list.
