APPOINTMENTS
We will be happy to see your child
by appointment during our regular
office hours
. For your convenience, we do have evening and Saturday hours.
We are also in the office on Sunday mornings if your child is ill. You
may make your appointment with whomever you choose, although we do recommend
that you meet each of us. We wish that we could always see you and your
child on time. Unfortunately, hospital responsibilities, unforeseen emergencies,
phone calls from consultants, parents, schools, etc. often make it difficult
for us to maintain the schedule we plan. We do value your time and we recognize
how difficult it can be to wait with small children. Therefore, we will
make every effort to notify you if we anticipate that we will be running
behind schedule. Please let us know if you have to cancel an appointment
or if you are unable to arrive on time. If you plan to bring more than
one child to a given appointment, please let us know so that we can have
a chart prepared and so that we can allow for some extra time.

EMERGENCIES
Of course, if your child has an
urgent problem at any time of the day, we are available by phone. Urgent phone
calls during regular
office hours
will be handled immediately by one of us or by a registered nurse
who is working under our direct supervision. After office hours, you will
be connected with our answering service. One of us is available at all
times. If necessary we will make arrangements to see you in the office
or at the hospital.

PAYMENT
We appreciate your payment at the time of service. For your convenience,
we also accept either Mastercharge or Visa. If it is necessary for you
to make other arrangements, our Office Manager will make every effort to
assist you.

INSURANCE
We participate in several
managed
care plans and
may join others in the future. Please call our Office Manager if you have
any questions about insurance plans or billing. If you belong to a plan
with a specific co-pay amount per visit, we do expect payment at the time
of service. Your insurance plan may restrict you to specific hospitals
or diagnostic facilities or require you to receive certification prior
to diagnostic evaluation or hospitalization. Please be aware of your plan's
provisions. We may not have access to that information if you call us off-hours.

PHONE CALLS
If you are calling about a non-urgent problem or you need advice, medication
dosages, etc., you will be asked to leave a message. Please understand
that if we are busy with emergencies or patients with appointments, these
will take priority over a non-urgent phone call, but we will return your
call as soon as we possibly can. If you call us with a problem, please
have available a paper and pencil, the names of any medications your child
is taking, and a recent temperature, if relevant. Also, know which pharmacy
you plan to use and whether or not it is open. Many pharmacies have 24-hour
emergency lines for their customers, but you must investigate this in advance
and know their special emergency phone number. It is also a good idea to
speak to your pharmacist about delivery policies. We are often asked to
prescribe medication over the phone. As long as we are able to update your
child's medications through regular examinations, we are certainly happy
to refill prescriptions for chronic problems such as asthma, allergies,
seizure disorders, etc. In general, however, we feel it is bad policy to
prescribe medications, especially antibiotics, without seeing the patient.
In setting this policy, our number one concern is your child's welfare.
Of course, we realize that emergencies arise. In certain circumstances,
we will prescribe an antibiotic over the phone, but we will expect that
you will bring the patient to the office as soon as possible so that we
can confirm our diagnosis.
