It appears that a poor February Sweeps period has doomed the show. In the meantime, NOTHING has been heard about TWO's fate yet. However, Kay Subich did provide me with this VARIETY snippet: Monday March 17 7:58 AM EST TV's Syndicated Freshmen Await Word Of Their Fate By Jenny Hontz HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - As stations and syndicators start examining results of the February sweeps, several of the season's new syndicated shows are waiting to learn their fate ... (a lot of info about talk shows, etc.) None of the season's new weeklies have approached the ratings level of any veterans, and next season will be crowded with more new off-network and first run hours. But many of the new shows may be kept alive by foreign investors. So far, only The Cape has been canceled, and Beach Patrol is on the endangered list. All the other syndicators say their new weeklies are coming back. Reuters/Variety My apologies to Lisa Cunningham who mistakenly was not credited with forwarding a review which appears in Section 1.7. I've corrected it. ATTN: Canada Here is the official word from CTV on the TWO hiatus: TWO will return to the CTV schedule on Tuesday June 17th at 10pm to finish off the season. In the meantime, the series "Nikita" will continue to air on Monday nights at 10:00. [Thanks to Stephanie Chow for passing this along!] There also seems o be a lot of curiosity out there about the actor who portrays Agent Forbes - Lochlyn Munro. He seems to be developing his own fan club out there. I'm sorry to say I have no more info than that which I've presented in this FAQ. However, if anyone out there dredges anything up on him, I'd be more than willing to add it in. Sorry this update is so late. There is no one reason, really. Just lots of little things adding up to a lot of bad timing. Thanks for sticking with me. As always, thanks for reading! Augie De Blieck Jr. North Haledon, NJ (0.1) - WHERE CAN I GET THE FAQ? There is a home page for this FAQ as well. Feel free to link into it: http://www.nic.com/~augie/two/two.htm Unfortunately, I can no longer offer to e-mail the FAQ to anyone, as it's just gotten too big to fit in my e-mail program. (This FAQ is now close to 80kb large.) However, I have taken that list and folded it over onto a new list which will serve to let me make an announcement when I update the FAQ. This way, you won't have to visit the web site every couple of days in the hopes of there being something new. I'll let you know when there is. If you'd like to be added to this list (which would probably be responsible for one short additional e-mail in your e-mail box two or three times a month), let me know. The web site is updated most every Sunday after new episodes, and pointers to it will be posted to rec.arts.tv and alt.tv.vr5 as updates are made. (1.0) - WHAT IS "TWO?" "Pilot" 09/08/96 Episode number: 96100 Written by Charles Grant Craig Directed by David Warry-Smith Guest-starring Allison Hossack, Andrew Wheeler, Jerry Wasserman TV GUIDE Summary: Michael Easton (in a dual role) plays a man who, after being falsely accused of murdering his wife, must search for the real perpetrator - his evil twin brother. In the opener, Booth frames Gus for several homicides. SUMMARY: "Gus" (the good twin) is a college professor with a beautiful wife and happy marriage. "Booth" (the bad twin) sets out to deliberately destroy Gus' life because he thinks its unfair that his brother had all the luck in life while he ended up being raised in an abusive family. Booth murders Gus' wife and sets it up so Gus gets blamed. He's also commited a number of other murders, each time carefully making it look like Gus really committed the crime. Gus thinks he's losing his mind (as in a split personality) until he finally meets his long lost brother face-to-face. Booth tells Gus what he's doing, taunting him with it, then disappears, leaving a determined FBI agent (Barbara Tyson as Special Agent Terry Carter) on Gus' tail thinking he's a psychopathic killer and who doesn't believe him when he tells her about an "evil twin" committing the crimes. Gus then has to run for his life, but at the same time he's trying desperately to find his brother so he can prove he's innocent. The catch? Booth is dying from a brain aneurysm, and he knows that once he dies, Gus will be left with his criminal record hanging around his neck and with no way to ever prove there had been a twin. So, the clock's ticking. 2. "A.D." 09/17/96 Episode Number: 96109 Written by Michael Easton and Kathy McCormick Directed by Guest-starring Lochlyn Munro, Terence Kelly, Anna Hagen, Andrew Wheeler, John Tench TV GUIDE Summary: Upon returning to Seattle to attend Sarah's funeral, Gus discovers that her father, who is a judge, is also convinced of Gus's guilt-and willing to carry out his own "justice". SUMMARY: Gus hitchhikes his way to his wife's funeral up in Seattle, and visits everyone along the way. He makes plans to buy new ID from a thug named Sammy. He visits his in-laws, Daniel (a judge) and Marian McAlistair. While Marian is happy to see him and supportive, Daniel sees Gus as a killer, seeing only the body of evidence before him. He visits his psychiatrist friend, Mark (Andrew Wheeler), who thinks Gus has Multiple Personality Syndrome. Mark gives Gus some money and promises to help him through this. Later in the episode, Mark turns Gus in, although Gus narrowly escapes through a garbage chute and into the back of a pick-up. Gus visits him one more time to say good-bye. Meanwhile, Agent Carter gets a new partner, Agent Forbes, a wet-behind- the-ears rookie just out of school, graduating in the top 5% of his class. Gus visits his reverend and pours out his heart, hating the fact that his wife died thinking that her husband was killing her. The reverend tells Gus to turn himself in, but Gus walks out. Gus makes plans to meet his in-laws in the park. Judge McAlistair pulls a gun on Gus. Gus challenges the Judge to shoot him, as he doesn't want to live like this - on the run for a crime he didn't commit, and living a life without his wife. The Judge puts away the gun but slaps Gus to the ground, telling him he plans to be at Gus trial every day after he gets caught until he has the pleasure of hearing the jury's verdict. Gus' mother-in-law then gives him a picture of Gus and his wife, along with his dead wife's wedding band. 3. "Dream Prisoner" 09/24/96 Episode number: 96104 Written by Mark Cullen Directed by David Warry-Smith Guest-starring Rodney A. Grant, Ned Romero, Lochlyn Munro, Andrew Johnston, Carmen Moore TV GUIDE Summary: Gus is captured by a Native American bounty hunter who reconsiders turning him in to the FBI when a dreamlike vision suggests that Gus will soon save his daughter's life. SUMMARY: Gus gets caught hitchhiking on an interstate highway by Clear Sky, a Native American bounty hunter who plans on sending his daughter to Harvard with the $50,000 bounty he can collect on Gus. He makes plans to drop McClaine off the next day to the FBI. Overnight, a vision he has while sleeping worries him; he sees an image of his daughter holding her birthday cake - her birthday is the next day - running out of a burning forest. He returns home to visit his shaman. The shaman shows him more of the vision. At the last moment, Gus saves Clear Sky's daughter. Clear Sky decides then to keep Gus around to save his daughter. Meanwhile, the FBI worries over the missing drop-off time for McClaine and assume Gus has killed him. APB's are sent out. A state trooper pulls over a speeding Clear Sky and has him back out of the car and lay on the ground. Gus distracts the trooper long enough for Clear Sky to punch him out, telling Clear Sky that he knows what would happen to him if the police should catch him, but is unsure of what Clear Sky would do. The chase is on as the FBI track Gus and Clear Sky as they run, all the while getting closer to Clear Sky's home again. Clear Sky stops to ask a bail bondsman friend if anyone he's brought in might be headed out looking for revenge. The bondsmen wants McClaine for himself, though, and pulls out a gun instead of the files. Clear Sky gets shot and Gus knocks out the bondsman. Clear Sky calls 911 himself and tells Gus to go home to protect his daughter. The FBI assume Gus shot Clear Sky and run to Clear Sky's home, surrounding Gus, Clear Sky's wife, and five children. The local sheriff pulls a power play and tries to take out Gus himself. He blows it and the scared kids huddle underneath the dinner table, knocking the cake off the table and into some paper and curtains near the floor. The candles ignite and the house starts to burn. Clear Sky escapes from the hospital and steals a paramedic's van and gets to the house in time to see the firemen putting out the fire, as Gus runs back into the house to save Clear Sky's daughter. As his daughter runs out without Gus, Clear Sky gets a couple of firemen uniforms and runs into the house to save Gus, dragging him out into the van without getting caught. He gets Gus out of the way, hands him some money, tells him he knows he couldn't do the things the FBI claims, promises his help should he ever find his brother, and sends Gus on his way. 4. Things only get more confusing when, after getting an unspecified amount of cash out of a safe-deposit box, Sydney confides in Gus that Walter was actually a BlackOps agent for the government. Sydney was an assistant who Walter said he could trust. She was in on this for her country. When they reach the getaway car Walter had arranged for, Gus finds only one set of IDs and one airplane ticket. Walter had not made plans to take Sydney with him. Then the bad guys show up. Gus and Sydney get away. The FBI has received the call about Gus during all of this, but the case is taken out of Agent Carter's hands and given to some other "higher" agency on a need-to-know basis. Carter, with Forbes' help, heads towards Washington state, anyhow. Gus finally finds keys to a boat - Walter's original plan to escape - and heads that way. Agent Carter, in the meantime, has figured out that the river is the only way to get out of the area. Also, the "higher agency" has discovered this due to a bug they had planted in Carter's briefcase. Mayhem ensues. In the end, Gus and Sydney get away. Sydney offers Gus a portion of the remaining money, but he declines, telling her she's going to need all of it to keep alive. 6. When one is killed, Gus is framed for murder yet again. SUMMARY: Gus is hired at a small town general store to help with inventory. The store is owned by Sarah, an unhappy wife, and her militant husband Ben. He is also offered the families attic room for his short stay. Even though Gus has no desire to become involved in the families problem he is inadvertently drawn in by the need for brotherly companionship by Sarah's teenage son Sam. Ben is overly strict with Sam which is the main cause of friction between the couple. While loading flour sacks into a truck Gus shows Sam how to properly lift a heavy flour sack. Sam makes a bet with Gus that he can't pick up three sacks at one time. As Gus attempts the feat one of the flour sacks bursts which turns into a playful flour fight between the two. Sarah sees the fight and her spirits are lifted by the sound of her sons laughter. Meanwhile Ben picks up a hitchhiker on a back road and takes him to an area of land designated "No Man's Land". He shows the hitcher a rifle and tells him they are going to play a game. He will give the guy a 30-second head start and if he makes it back to the road he's home free if not, well you know. Ben tracks the guy down and shoots him only the bullets are paint balls. He lets the guy go after he threatens his life if he tells. That night Ben gives Sam an 'us against them lecture' while ordering him to punch a heavy bag until his knuckles bleed. At the same time, Gus is helping Sarah with the dishes and she tells him her story revealing that Sam is not Bens child. (Ben sees them talking through the kitchen window) Hours later Gus wakes up to the sound of Sam still hitting the bag. He goes to talk to him and ends up giving him some good pointers on how to box (Ben sees the two boxing). Next day- Sarah leaves Gus in charge of the store while she goes to the post office where she sees his wanted poster. While Gus is alone at the store the Sheriff comes in and quizzes Gus about his background. The Sheriff throws Gus a trick statement which causes him to become curious. Once again Ben picks up another hitchhiker, whom turns out to know martial arts. During the game the hitcher jumps Ben and kicks A--, well almost, until Ben pulls out a pistol and shoots the guy with real bullets. Later Sarah confronts Gus about the wanted poster. Gus tells her that if he did all the things the poster says he did why hasn't he killed her yet. She admits that he has been a help and that she trusts him. Next day- the Sheriff visits Ben and tells him that pistol shots were heard out at "No Man's Land" and his truck was spotted in the area. He also tells him that he has suspicions about Gus. Ben lies and tells him that he loaned the truck to Gus the day before. Ben then invites Gus to go hunting with him the next day. After a fight with Ben about his long disappearances and her disheartenment concerning their family problems Sarah goes to Gus for comfort. He can offer her none. Gus tells her that she deserves more than he can give her. The sheriff finds the body and goes to get Gus, but they are out hunting. Ben forces Gus into the same game setting it up to look like he killed the hitcher. The Sheriff arrives in time to save Gus, but Ben takes out the Sheriff and then Gus has to save the Sheriff. In the mean time Sally is ending her long-time relationship with her abusive boyfriend Mike Martin. She tells him that she has taken enough abuse and forces him to leave her home at gunpoint. Gus goes to the Library where Sally works. Gus begins to have flashbacks of how he met his wife at a Library as the flashback fades he hears turns and there stands Sally (who just happens to look exactly like his dead wife Sarah) Gus is shocked at the resemblance he is speechless. Of course, she thinks he's Booth who ran out on her nine years ago without even as much as a good-bye. Gus finally gets out that he needs to talk to her. She tells him there's nothing to talk about and walks away. That night Sally is at home taking a shower under the watchful eye of a peeping Tom. After her shower she hears a noise and goes to the door armed with her handgun. As she opens the door Gus is just arriving. He again asks to talk with her. Sally agrees. Gus tries to explain that he is Booth's twin she doesn't buy it. She tells him that he(Booth) left town when he found out she was pregnant. She didn't have the baby. She expects him to apologize Gus tells her he doesn't think he should have to apologize for something he didn't do. Upset by this she then tells him to leave. The next day Gus has lunch with George and finds out that Booth was considered the "Terror of Fort Langley" and that while the townspeople were afraid of him the high school kids adored his rebelliousness. Also, that he and Mike Martin were especially envious of him because he was "nailing" Sally Bragg. The peeping Tom/Stalker calls Sally. She thinks its Mike. The call spooks her and she goes to Gus's motel room. She tells Gus she is ready to talk. After telling her story she tries to kiss Gus, but he is disturbed by recurring flashbacks of his wife and backs off. Sally asks to stay because the phone call she received frightened her. He attacks Mike and nearly beats him to a bloody pulp before Sally pulls him off. Later Sally and Gus are having lunch outside her home. As they talk he discovers that he and Booth have many similarities i.e. authors, favorite movie, hatred of coleslaw. And then Mike shoots at them from the woods. Gus gives chase through the woods and trips over Mikes dead body. Someone beat him to death with a large tree branch. Of course, this causes the cops to become suspicious of Gus and the local sheriff tells him to stick around for questioning. That evening Sally gets yet another stalker call. At the same time Gus is stopped near his motel by the local sheriff who wants to take him in because of the fight between Mike and he earlier. Gus hits the sheriff and takes his car and then calls George for help. George tells him he will meet him at his house. Back at Sally's George is there to take her to meet with Gus/Booth. During the ride there Sally asks to use his cell phone she notices her number comes up as the last call made when she asks George about it he hits her and knocks her out. Miller, Michael Hogan, Andrew Johnston and Suzy Joachin Written by: Joe Yogerst Directed by: Perci Young Two officers show up at a fish processing plant claiming that a tip was called in about McClain working there. The owner allows them to look around. Only one officer goes in. He spots Gus a chase ensues. Gus heads for the roof the officer fires hitting him in the leg. On the roof up against a railing Gus is shot again and falls over the railing into the water. At the plant Carter questions Officer Pierce asking if he was sure it was McClain he shot. Although shaken because this is the first-time he has ever shot someone, he is sure it was McClain. Carter asks to see the body and is told that it was not recovered yet because of poor visibility and the rough current. At F.B.I Headquarters Carter argues with Fitzgerald not to close the case. She doesn't believe McClain is dead, at least, without seeing a body. Fitzgerald gives them a report that states the blood found on the roof matched McClain's and wants to close the case. Booth hears the news of Gus's death on television and almost goes ballistic until it hits him that this is probably a set up. Next day a fisherman finds a body floating face down in the water near where Gus went in. At the County Morgue Carter and Forbes meet the Coroner Dr. Manson. She pulls the body out for them to see and Forbes asks what happened to his face. Dr. Manson states that local birds probably were the cause of the disfigurement as well as the loss of most of the fingertips. Dr. Manson tells them that the identification was made through matching dental x-rays. Carter is not convinced that the body is McClain's. Booth shows up at the morgue and Dr. Manson talks to him as if he is Gus "You shouldn't be here you'll be seen." Booths says "I didn't know you cared." "I don't but I'm not going to throw $25,000 down the drain either." After Booth leaves the Dr. makes a phone call and tells `Gus?' that Booth bought it hook, line and sinker. Just after she hangs up Booth grabs her. Carter again argues with Fitzgerald not to close the case because she doesn't believe McClain is dead. Fitzgerald tells Carter to forget the McClain case and move on. The next day Carter finds out that Dr. Manson didn't show up for work and didn't call in. Getting suspicious they go to the police station to report her missing. While there they find out that Sgt Pierce is also missing. Carter is sure that this is not just a coincidence. She begins to suspect that the two are in conspiracy with McClain to get the reward money. They then discover that the man who found the body was none other than Gus's friend Anton Kasteroff, the Russian Mobster, who owes Gus a big favor after he saved his son Stefan. Carter finds out that Dr. Manson's parents are Russian immigrants like Kasteroff. And upon going to both Manson and Pierces homes they discover that they both raise pigeons. Carter and Forbes both realize that the three are linked together and Carter's conspiracy idea becomes a solid lead. Booth grabs Anton in his hotel room. And then shows up at the morgue with a van stating that he has three victims from a gas explosion. The person in charge has no record of the victims but tells him to unload anyway an they will figure it out later. That night Gus shows up at the morgue, after he has called the police, and Booth joins him shortly after. Gus tells Booth its a set up and the police are on their way. Booth asks where all his friends that helped him are. Gus says they'll be here. Booth tells him maybe their already here and pulls a gun on Gus. "Sink or Swim" 01/13/97 Episode Number: 96117 Guest-stars: Loclyn Munroe, Nadia Capone and Chris Nelson Morris Written by: Kathy McCormick Directed by: Brad Turner TV GUIDE SUMMARY: Acting on a tip, Agents Carter and Forbes track Gus to a warehouse where he is working. When Carter (Barbara Tyson) is critically injured in the ensuing pursuit, Forbes takes on the case alone. Gus is in a small cafe when a group of police barge in an forces everyone to evacuate via the back door because of a police emergency next door. As the people are being lead out by the police a plain clothes officer notices Gus, but has to let him go because of the emergency. At F.B.I. Headquarters Carter has just gotten the news that Gus was spotted in Maconville. Carter is excited because she is sure this time that McClain has no idea that he has been identified and it should give them the advantage that they have needed to catch him. Also, the local National Guard is doing its annual urban maneuvers in the area and has agreed to help in the manhunt. In Maconville Gus has been working and sleeping at a shipping company run by Christine Aramita who hires mostly short-term temporary help. She has taken a shine to Gus because she knows he is different than the others. Carter and Forbes use the local police station as their headquarters. Sgt Larkin the officer who first spotted McClain is assigned to help them. Larkin tells Carter about Christine's warehouse and the kind of help she hires. At the warehouse Amanda tells them she doesn't know anyone named McClain and lets them look around. Gus is inside a truck loading it when he spots Carter. He bursts through a crowd of workers and runs out into the alley with Carter close on his heels. As Carter enters the alley behind Gus she is hit by a car. The car doesn't stop but Gus does. He goes over to where Carter lay unconscious but is forced to run when he hears Forbes and the others coming. At the hospital Forbes finds out that Carter has a dislocated shoulder and a bad concussion that has kept her from coming around. The Doctor is hopeful that she will be alright, but only time will tell right now. Forbes becomes very angry and becomes as determined as Carter to catch McClain. Gus calls Christine later that night to ask for help. When he shows up he explains that he did not do what they say. She believes him. Sgt Larkin knows Christine and thinks that she is hiding McClain. He and Forbes return the next morning to the warehouse to look for clues to help them find him. Forbes looks through Gus's things and notices a clipboard with information about a warehouse that was for sale. Christine tells Forbes she had asked Gus his opinion about it. Forbes goes to the warehouse alone with no back-up. Gus is able to grab Forbes, take his gun, forces him into a storage cage and locks him in. Gus tries to reason with Forbes telling him that Carter can not see beyond her obsession and that is why she will not accept the truth about his twin. Gus asks Forbes to open his mind and listen to the truth. He reasons that a person that could kill all those people including his wife must be insane. And that insanity is not a trait he shares with his brother. He explains that Booth enjoys killing, furthermore, if he did kill all those people then how can it be rationalized that he hasn't killed both Carter and Forbes by now. Forbes tells him that it is because he and Carter are players in his game and the victims were only pawns. This sets Gus off and he looses control of his normally calm exterior shouting that his wife was not a pawn. Forbes responds that from his perspective Gus would not pass as a poster boy for mental health. Gus gives up his bid to reason with Forbes and walks away. At the hospital Carter is awake and fine. Forbes tells Carter that he made a mistake by going after McClain without back-up. He explains that because of her getting hurt he really wanted to be the one to bring McClain in. Forbes goes again to the warehouse this time with a search warrant. They find a sales receipt from a military surplus store and realize that Gus is going to escape Maconville by posing as a Guardsman. Gus, in uniform, steals a 2 ton truck and breaks through a road block in a fiery blaze with Forbes and Larkin hot on his tail. When Larkin sees the fiery roadblock and realizes Forbes is going to go through it after McClain he grabs the wheel from Forbes and ditches the car. 15. On his way back from the restroom Gus overhears the three girls talking and becomes curious when he heres Cassie say "if anyone finds out we will spend the rest of our lives in prison." She says no they are all good students. He then asks if any of them have seemed different lately. Barbara says she has noticed that Suzanne had missed a few days of school and upon her return was very quiet "as if she was trying to keep a lid on something." Just as she finishes talking Jeff and a high school jock come crashing through the patio doors entangled in a fight. After Gus breaks up the fight the jock warns Jeff to stay away from his girl. On their way once again Gus and Suzanne make eye contact via the rearview mirror. She knows he was the one who took the gun. Jack, Suzanne and Cassie discuss the nights finale stating that they are going to make him pay for what he did to Suzanne's little sister Jen. Cassie has second thoughts and tries to leave. Gus stops her and asks what's wrong when she hesitates he tells her that "things aren't always as bad as they seem." To which she replies, "But sometimes they are worse than you thought." Jack comes out to get Cassie before she can tell Gus anything. A few moments later Gus hears a car drive off. He runs to the limo to check for the gun, that he hid between the front seats, and finds it missing. Gus turns up at Barbara, the teachers, apartment to try and find out where the group may be going. She tells him about Suzanne's fathers office building, which has a large terrace 40 stories up that is connected to his office. Gus arrives and finds Suzanne holding a gun on Jeff. Gus tells her she doesn't want to do this. Suzanne replies that he is going to be punished for raping her little sister, which Jeff vehemently denies doing. She explains that it will look like an accident. Jeff's been drinking all night and got to close to the railing and fell, poor Jeff. No one will ever know. Gus remarks that his knowing presents them with a problem. Suzanne replies that they will kill him too. Gus slowly walks up and puts his hand on the gun "you won't kill him." Suzanne questions his remark "what makes you think I won't." Gus explains "because you don't have it in you, I can see it in your eyes." He slowly takes the gun from Suzanne, grabs Jeff and says "but I do." He pushes Jeff out onto the terrace raving that the man that killed his wife lied about it and he can't do anything about that, but he can do something about Jeff. Grabbing Jeff again by the shirt he shoves him up against the railing and forces him to admit what he did by threatening to throw him over the side. Next day Gus and Barbara are walking in the rain, just before Gus goes to leave she asks him why he stuck his neck out for those kids. He says it just seemed like the right thing to do. Barbara lets him know that she thinks he would make a great teacher. 16. "Between the Lines" 02/03/97 Episode Number: 96121 Guest-starring: Lochlyn Munro, Sandra Nelson and Michael David Simms Written by: Genia Shipman Directed by: David Warry-Smith TV GUIDE SUMMARY: It's a case of publish and perish for Gus when a journalist threatens to issue a book in which Gus admits his guilt "in his own words." Booth meets with Paula Muncy , reporter turned author, on a tour boat in Seattle. They meet to discuss the publishing of her book entitled " Lessons from Prof. Death, Conversations with Gus McClain." Upon their meeting Booth searches her purse for any kind of recording device while she assures him she has not turned him in. Paula , of course, believes that the person she has been meeting with these past months to get the story for her book is 'thee' Gus McClain. The real Gus McClain sees Ms. Muncy interviewed on a local Seattle program and is rightfully upset that a book about Gus McClain - Serial Killer, or multiple murderer as Booth would rather be called, will sign and seal his death warrant. Carter and Forbes see the same interview and bring Paula in for questioning. Carter inquires as to why she didn't contact the F.B.I. about McClain's whereabouts. Paula tells Carter that she did try to inform the F.B.I., but every time she called she was given the run-around, and when she mentioned McClain her call was forwarded to Forbes. Paula then states that she didn't want to talk to Forbes she wanted to talk to Carter. She then claims that by-law they have no reason to hold her and that she did nothing wrong. Gus approaches her just after she finishes talking on a pay phone. He demands to know "what are you trying to do to me." She is visibly nervous about this unplanned meeting and is confused that Gus is talking in third person. Paula notices Gus's wedding ring which causes him to ask "did you ask him about Sarah?" Paula tells him he talked about all his murder victims. She tells him that Gus said he might try to sell her on this evil twin crab, but not to buy it. She admits to him that his talking in third person is making her very nervous. Gus retorts "You and your book just signed my death warrant and I'm making you nervous?" Later when she goes to her car in a basement parking garage she is startled by Gus(Booth) waiting for her. She tells him that he scared her earlier and now shows up here, why? He apologizes for scaring her earlier . Paula tells him he should get out of town. As she walks away Booth whispers "Not know the game is just getting good." Ten minutes later Paula enters her hotel room and there sits Gus waiting for her. She is angry at him for scaring her again and says he just apologized for scaring her not ten minutes ago in the parking garage and then shows up at her hotel. Gus asks her if he was wearing the same clothes. She tells him no, but he could have changed. Gus rationalizes that he could not have changed clothes and gotten to her hotel room ahead of her in ten minutes. "Can't you see there are two of us?" Gus demands she contact McClain and set up a meeting. He then takes her tape recorder and talks into it. Before he leaves Gus tells her to get Booth's voice on that tape and have them analyzed. Paula is in shock that he put his voice on tape for her. Next day she meets with Gus (Booth) on the boat. When he demands to know what the meeting is about she tells him that the publisher is asking questions about the validity of the book. She tells him that if he does have a multiple personality problems the publisher thinks he may be lying. Booth grabs her and finds the hidden recorder, throws it over the side and threatens to kill her if she ever tries anything like that again. Paula meets with Carter and tells her about what she has observed and that there may be something to this multiple personality thing. Carter convinces her that this is all just an elaborate game that McClain is playing and his only problem is that he is a psychotic killer. Carter has Forbes follow Paula. Meanwhile Booth literally runs into Gus with a van. Drags him inside and handcuffs him in the back. Booth drives by Forbes and Paula shooting at him making sure they see his face as he drives by shooting. Before Forbes can catch him Booth ditches the van, throws Gus the handcuff key and takes off. Of course, when Forbes gets there the van is empty. The meetings with Gus & Booth cause Paula to believe that McClain is very mentally ill and that maybe her book does not tell the whole truth. She tells her publisher she wants to stop the publication of the book. The next day she meets with Gus in the park and tells him she is not going to publish the book. She then pulls a gun and threatens to turn him in. Gus just walks away knowing she will not shoot.. That night Booth breaks into the apartment where Paula is staying and ties her up. Booth calls Gus and tells him if he wants a happy ending to the story he'd better get their quick. He then sets up a video camera and begins to tape lesson number one for Murder 101, by Prof. Death. As the video tape roles he talks about different ways to kill a person using various weapons. Booth interprets the intimacy or lack of that corresponds with each weapon. His choice of murder is by strangulation which he feels is the most intimate way to kill a person. He begins to strangle her she blacks out and Gus busts in, jumping Booth and knocking over the video camera. Booth gets away first, Gus makes sure Paula is alright and then leaves. Paula shows the video tape to Carter, but all that it captured was Booth and Gus's legs as they fought. As a switch at the end of the episode it is Booth hitchhiking out of town. 18. MTM's two- hour premiere of "The Cape" scored a 3.1 rating in No. 29 while New World's "Two" premiered with a 2.6 in No. 35. VARIETY (by way of Kay Subich) reported on 18 October 96: In week four on the air, "Two" dropped 14 percent to a 2.5 in metered markets. It is off 22 percent from its lead-in, but it is even with the timeslot's year-ago average. VARIETY (once again via Kay Subich) reported on 31 Oct. 96: New Syndicated Shows Get Low Grades None of the first-run weeklies is approaching hit status either, although they arguably take longer to build. Sinbad is leading the newcomers at a 2.9, even though it fell 15% for the week. Two rose 13% to a second-place 2.7, tying Viper, which also rose 8%. Poltergeist: The Legacy grew 19% to a 2.5, while FX -- the Series fell 19% to a 2.6 in its fifth outing. The Cape also had a steep 17% drop to 2.0, its lowest yet. A print ad for HIGHLANDER included a list of new syndicated programs as of November 1996 with their respective ratings: And for the new action hours: Nov 96 National Ratings F/X The Series 3.2 Sinbad 3.2 The Cape 2.7 Viper 2.7 Two 2.5 PSI Factor 2.5 Poltergeist 2.4 Tarzan 2.0 Finally, VARIETY last reported on 14 January 97: Holidays A Downer For Veteran Syndicated Shows By Jenny Hontz HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Most veteran syndicated shows suffered big losses during the holiday week ended Dec. 29, but talk shows rallied and a few newcomers sparkled... "Two" led the new weekly pack, gaining 8% to a 2.8, which was 8% ahead of its debut. Tying for second was FX (2.7), which fell 16%, still 8% over its premiere. Also second was Sinbad, which grew 17% for the week and 4% since its bow. Reuters/Variety In other words, TWO is being watched by more people now than when it started. This is _very_ good news! Most recently, this article appeared in Daily Variety, shared with us via Kay Subich, out resident Hollywood insider. ;-) Shown below are merely excerpts of a much larger article. Thursday February 13 8:38 AM EST 'Xena' Cracks Whip In Syndication Ratings By Jenny Hontz HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Xena: Warrior Princess battled its way to the top spot in the weekly action genre by its widest margin during the week ended Feb. 2. The show remained first among weeklies for the second week in a row after rising 2% to a 6.1 and beating Hercules: The Legendary Journeys by a full rating point. Hercules slid 14% for the week to a 5.1, which was down a stunning 27% from the same week last year. Xena was up 11% from its year-ago rating. Finishing third among weeklies for the first time this season was Outer Limits, which grew 5% to a 4.1, beating Baywatch despite losing 5% from last year. Meanwhile, Baywatch dropped 3% to a 3.9, sinking a full 36% from its year-ago mark. Not far behind, Babylon 5 jumped 9% to a 3.8, which was 9% ahead of last year. Among the season's new weeklies, which were far behind, Psi Factor shared the top spot at 2.9 with FX -- The Series. Psi climbed 7%, while FX rose 12%. Falling from first place to third, Sinbad dipped 7% to a 2.7, while Poltergeist: The Legacy tumbled 15% to a 2.3. Three new weeklies tied at 2.1: Two and The Cape, which both fell 9%, and America's Dumbest Criminals, which was flat. Tarzan rose 12% to a 1.9, Bounty Hunters increased 8% to a 1.3, and Beach Patrol was flat at 1.0. Reuters/Variety -------------------- (1.3) - WHAT INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ON THE CAST? Michael Easton "Gus McClain" and "Booth Hubbard" [The following is taken from the VR.5 FAQ, which is also maintained by me. The information here comes from a FOX press release.] Born Feb. 15 in Manhattan Beach, Calif., Michael Easton is best known for his role of "Tanner" in the serial "Days of Our Lives," which lead to his selection as the only daytime performer recognized in People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" of 1992 issue. His other television credits include the mini-series "Dazzle" and the movie "Shadow of a Stranger." Aside from acting, Easton likes to write poetry and screenplays. This form of self-expression comes alive in "Drift," a collection of thoughts written during a ten-month journey through New Mexico, Louisiana, New Orleans, Florida and New York. His screenplays include "Monty," which portrays the life of Montgomery Clift, and the now-in-development "Sadness of the Moon," the true life story of a teenage girl unjustly institutionalized and her one-year battle to get out. Easton received a degree in English and History from UCLA. He is single and resides in Hollywood. Barbara Tyson "Special Agent Terry Carter" The Internet Movie Database [ http://www.msstate.edu/Movies/ ] gives two roles in movies: 1. Danielle Steel's 'Remembrance' (1996) (TV) (voice) .... Adult Vanessa 2. Final Cut, The (1995) .... Wailer She played Dawn Rollo on "Another World" in 1987-88 under her real of Barbara Bush. When she was 18, she got her big break in an HBO movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Carol Burnett entitled, "Between Friends." She has also guest-starred on ER, The Outer Limits, Poltergeist, and recurringly on Alien Nation. Tyson has appeared in two other movies, Ernest Goes To Jail and Pacific Heights (in a supporting role.) Allison Hossack "Mrs. Gus McClain" Played alongside Michael Dudikoff in "Cobra," another Cannell syndicated series from a couple of years back. Will Cameron describes it: The premise was an ex-Navy seal (Michael Dudikoff from the American Ninja movies) working for a sort of private intelligence agency headed by an ex-FBI Agent. Allisoon Hossack (SP?) played this ex-agent's daughter. It doesn't have anything to do with the insipid Sylvester Stallone movie. (1.4) - WHERE CAN I WRITE TO THE CAST AND CREW OF TWO? (1.7) - HAS THERE BEEN ANY MEDIA COVERAGE? In short, yes. It hasn't all been overwhelmingly positive, but... Kay Subich reports that the 30 Aug 96 issue of "Daily Variety" had a "full-page color ad for TWO with a great photo of ME. You can purchase back issues of "Variety" by calling their subscription department and they accept credit cards." Soap Opera Digest had a good article about Michael Easton in its 10 Sept 96 issue. It includes a color picture of Easton as the twins. Julie transcribed it: Michael Easton (ex-Tanner Scofield, Days Of Our Lives) Michael Easton knew he was taking a considerable risk when he quit the role of DAYS OF OUR LIVES's Tanner in 1992. But today, you could say his gamble has paid off TWO fold. Easton has been cast as twins Gus McClain and Booth Hubbard in TWO, a new action/adventure series from thrillmeister Stephan J. Cannel. TWO premires in first-run syndication starting September 8, and co-stars another ex-soap star, Barbara Tyson. (If her name is not familiar, that's because Tyson used to be known as Barbara Bush when she played Dawn Rollo on ANOTHER WORLD from 1987-88. We can figure out why she changed her name...) Tyson plays Terry Carter, an FBI agent who's pursuing Gus for crimes actually commited by his evil sibling, Booth. Easton says he is working almost seven days a week - - all the more reason producers prefer that he not do his own stunts. "I perform as many as I can," Easton offers, "but I leave the really good stuff for the pros." Quitting DAYS wasn't easy, but Easton now says it was for the best. After saying good-bye to Tanner, the actor took a career sabbatical in order to deal with the loss of his mother, who had just died of cancer. "[My mom] was the most wonderful person," Easton says quietly. "I was closer to her than anyone. I had no desire to work during or after [that time]. Fortunately, I have an understanding agent." When Easton did go back to auditioning, he landed a lead role in last season's sci-fi [sic] series VR.5. "It got great reviews," recalls Easton, "but only eight [sic] episodes aired. I don't know why [networks] expect shows to catch on right away. I understand canceling crap, but series like MEDICINE BALL and PROFIT deserve to be on. Fans need to know shows will be there before they invest in them." Easton's talents are also behind the camera, too. He wrote, directed, and edited *Daedalus Is Dead,* a short film starring Ami Dolenz (ex-Melissa, GENERAL HOSPITAL) and Kamar de los Ryes (Antonio, ONE LIFE TO LIVE). "Kamar's my best friend," Easton reveals. We've known each other for seven years." The actor also stays in touch with former DAYS lover, Shannon Sturges (ex-Molly, now SAVANNAH's Reese). "Shannon and Staci [Greason, ex-Isabella] saw me in a play I did in L.A. called *The Door.* Also, I still talk to Robert [Mailhouse, who played Tanner's big brother, Brian.] He and I had a lot of fun working together." Reuters and USA Today have both reviewed the show, albeit it negatively. Here is the USA Today blurb, via John Dobbin: OH BROTHER: Two heads are sillier than one in TWO, a belief-suspending, but rousing action chase thriller that owes a huge debt to "The Fugitive." The twist here is that the hero, mild-mannered professor Gus McClain, quickly learns the identity of the fiend who killed his wife. It's his mirror image, his doppelganger: Booth Hubbard, the ultimate evil twin who poor Gus never even knew existed. Both are played by Michael Easton, who could be mistaken for yet another sleek Baldwin brother in looks and cool-dude mumble. This could be just the show for those mourning UPN's "Nowhere Man." Though not as smart, it's every bit as paranoid, as Gus runs from the FBI while the psychopathic Booth smirks at the mess he's caused. They gave the series two-and-a-half out of four stars. Lisa Cunningham contributed this Los Angeles Times review: "Two": Too Obvious to Be Much Fun by Jon Matsumoto Michael Easton should get plenty of exercise in the new syndicated drama "Two". Protraying twin brothers in this thinkly veiled reworking of "The Fugitive", the former "Days of Our Lives" star will undoubtedly be doing his fair share of running in this series. Easton is both the on-the-lam hero and the villain in "Two". As Gus McClain, he's a young college professor, blissfully married. As Booth Hubbard, he's a malicious psychopath who is determined to make his brother's life hell on Earth. Hubbard frames his brother not only for the murder of his wife but also for the killings of four other people. This social deviant is bitter because the brothers were separated as infants after their parents were killed in a car accident, and McClain was brought up in a prviliged, loving environment while Hubbard's youth was filled with rancor and delinquency. "Two" offers a less compelling set of circumstances that "The Fugitive". McClain appears to have a far easier task in clearing his name than did Dr. Richard Kimble. Here, there's no mysterious one-armed man; the professor knows the identity and motives of the real killer, who is an obvious lunatic with a troubled and seemingly verifiable history. It's also difficult to believe that an innocent man with an unblemished past could be successfully framed for not one but five murders committed by his brother. As McClain flees authorities in the woods surrounding Seattle, one wishes he would just stop, turn himself in and ring up Johnnie Cochran. Reuters, via VARIETY, also had a review of the series. REVIEW/TELEVISION: Evil Twin Brother Saga 'Two' Far-Fetched By Ray Richmond HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Going from ``Days of Our Lives'' to ''Daze of Our Lives'', soap stud Michael Easton portrays a man who is harassed, hunted and framed by the evil identical twin brother he never knew existed in this syndicated Stephen J. Cannell hour that plays like ``The Fugitive'' crossed with ''Twin Peaks.'' Easton plays both brothers in a nifty bit of visual legerdemain from the effects team headed by Lee Wilson. He looks like David Duchovny at some moments, Steven Weber at others. Cannell and company obviously count on the bewildered star's hunkability to attract the ever-elusive young female demo, but it may not be enough in a show that feels a tad derivative. The story opens with Gus McClain (Easton's good alter ego) living the life of Riley: a great job as a college prof, beautiful wife, house in the 'burbs, probably a wine cellar boasting bottle after bottle of the finest chardonnay. But then weird things start happening. Lesson plans disappear from his briefcase. People chide him about that drinking binge the night before that never occurred. Coeds show up in his office requesting a second love making session when he can't recall a first. Either this guy has premature Alzheimer's or a severe personality disorder. Instead, of course, it's his unknown slimeball look-alike bro who is making his life a living hell. It turns out that the bro, Booth Hubbard, was separated from Gus just after birth when their parents were killed in an auto accident, leaving Booth to be raised by abusive foster scum, while Gus had a loving upbringing. So that's why Booth is such a twisted soul. Gus got the better childhood, thus someone's got to pay. May as well be Gus. Oh, and did we mention that Booth also happens to be terminally ill with lung cancer? Well, he is. But it doesn't necessarily make us feel sorry for the guy. Anyhow, Booth winds up framing Gus for a murder and now Gus is on the lam from the FBI. It's unclear just why a federal organization would need to track a single killing from a college professor, but this is television. Please, don't ask questions. Easton is nimble enough playing the dual saint-and-Satan roles, and fellow soaper Barbara Tyson (Another World) adds adequate support as the FBI agents who finds Gus' story about an identical twin a bit far-fetched. And frankly, as written in the pilot by creator Charles Grant Craig, it is. As directed by David Warry-Smith, ``Two'' also feels too much like a lot of previous TV trackdown efforts. It's uncertain how producers can sustain intensity and interest through 22 episodes in what essentially is a search for the one-armed man with a '90s spin. Enough convoluted subplots already creep into ``Two'' to stretch the limits of plausibility. Still, the premise is intriguing enough to merit a second look, if not necessarily a third. Kay Subich contributed this Entertainment Weekly review of 06 September 1996: In TWO, we meet twin brothers - mild, bespectacled Gus and violent, stubbly Booth - who were separated shortly after birth. After a tough upbringing ("foster parents and jail cells"), Booth decides to get back at Gus by impersonating and framing him in a series of crimes - including the murder of Gus' wife. Both twins are played by Michael Easton, who does a good job of talking to himself, even if he looks (and murmurs) like a couple of heretofore-missing Baldwin brothers. The premise is both compelling and so hokey it's hard to see how executive producer Stephen J. Cannell is going to sustain it. But just because I can't figure it out doesn't mean Cannell won't. - Ken Tucker This review reads like it was heavily referenced from the USA Today blurb. Or maybe it is vice versa? (1.8) WHERE CAN I GET COPIES OF THE EPISODES? Linda Marie, from somewhere in Canada, has graciously offered to dub some tapes for those of you who wish to see the series, but can't. For more information, contact her through e-mail: bz701@freenet.toronto.on.ca Realize, of course, that this is a Canadian address, and so postage may cost a little extra for those of you in the States. Otherwise, check out the newsgroups. Make a post in the tape-trading newsgroup (somewhere on the alt.* hierarchy) with your request. (1.9) IN WHAT ORDER WERE THE EPISODES FILMED? The episode numbers give us a pretty decent idea of the order in which the episodes were taped. In what order they were meant to be shown is impossible to tell. Shows are sometimes taped out of order to make use of existing sets, or to fit around key actors' schedules. (Note, for example, that the second episode aired, "A.D.", was actually the ninth episode filmed. However, it was clearly meant to be aired directly after the pilot as it fills in many chunks of plot leftover from the pilot.) From Kay Subich, who managed to worm a copy of the schedule with episode numbers attached from somebody, here is the listing: 96100 Two (pilot) 96101 Prodigal 96102 96103 Victoria's Secret 96104 Dream Prisoner 96105 Russian Hill 96106 Many Happy Returns 96107 No Man's Land 96108 Black Ops 96109 A.D. 96110 The Nun Story 96111 96112 Games People Play 96113 Chain Gang 96114 Armies of the Night 96115 Reunion 96116 Forget Me Not 96117 Sink or Swim 96118 Prom Night 96119 Bad Company 91120 Leap of Faith 96121 Between the Lines 96122 The Reckoning [The FAQ maintainer is well aware that this section of the FAQ belongs further up - probably more as a section 1.3 or so than a 1.9.
