How Not To Write A Movie

Some time ago, Wizard On-line sponsored a writing contest. The basic thrust of it was for you, the creative writer, to write a movie script based on a comic character. The best one wins. Well, I didn't win. And for good reason, as you're about to find out.

At the time the contest started, I was in a period of experimenting with television and movie-style screenplay scripting. So I leapt at the chance to do this for Wizard. I worked up some ideas for a Dragon movie.

I decided I'd make it a rough interpretation of some major plots - OverLord-related - from the first couple of dozen issues.

Quite honestly, I don't think it turned out that well. I barely made it through what would be considered the first act. Then I wrote a rough idea of what the rest of the plot was to be at the eleventh hour to meet the contest deadline. (I still haven't found that, sorry to say.)

And for some strange reason, people want to see this "piece of work." Oh, it's a piece of something all right. It's not without some redeeming values, but there aren't many of them. So here you have it in plain ASCII form, more or less. I present to you: The Savage Dragon Movie

Freak Force

This is the 8-page script I wrote as a prequel to Freak Force #1, detailing their days in Phyllis' Apartment before the move into their own headquarters. It's a comic script, completely. Not much plot or action, but it's guaranteed to give you a chuckle or three. There are two versions available:

  • The Word 6.0 Version was written using Steve Gerber's Fscript Template. It includes all the proper formatting, boldness, and fonts you could ask for.
  • The ASCII Version is an older version of the same script, generally, with an extra panel on one page and a couple of minor dialogue revisions.

Freak Force is a copyright of Erik Larsen, 1997. All rights reserved. This script was originally written in September of 1995.

Freak Force Redux

Now Available In Text Format!

Here's the anxiously awaited "Poker Your Eyes Out." This is my second Freak Force fan-fic story, published exclusively here and never before seen elsewhere. (Oooh. Aaah.) .

Choose your format:

  • Word 6.0 comes complete with different fonts and boldness and proper formatting. This is the preferred format.
  • TEXT is available so those of you without Word or who are on a Mac can still read the story. Turn on your word wrap and it'll look a lot better. Otherwise, a lot of the formatting (tabs, bold, fonts) is lost here. It's still the same story, though.

And if you're looking for more Freak Force, here's a script for an 18-page story guest-starring the evil brothers Keith Giffen created for Badrock and Company #1. It's available in Text With Layout only. Easier that way, you understand. You lose the bold-faced words, but you're better inserting them yourself. =)

Finally, here's a story set during The Savage Dragon's absence from Earth, a time in which Officer Alex Wilde is having a hard time trying to cope. And then Mako attacks. It's only available in Word format for now.

Once again, Freak Force and The Savage Dragon are copyrighted to Erik Larsen, 1998, with all appropriate character names copyrighted and trademarked, where appropriate. This script is written purely for the enjoyment and exercise of writing.
