"Remember When... ?"
... Comics Shop News announced a new ALIENS serial to be published in their
pages, drawn by Gene Colan? What happened to that? DAREDEVIL?
... THE COPYBOOK TALES last came out? I haven't seen a new issue in months.
Wasn't there supposed to be a new issue out last month? Did it come out?
... Todd McFarlane belonged to our incestuous little comic book club and not
Hollywood?
I saw SPAWN last Wednesday. Nice graphics. Good T&A. Violence in all the
right places. Beautiful women, big guns.
And THAT'S why it's the best comic book adaptation on the big screen ever.
Faithful to the extreme. =)
... it was shocking to have a comic book cost $2.00? It had to have been one
of those flimsy black and white independent books, right? Well, now I'm
happily spending $6.95 per month on one book and $8.95 on the other. The
first is WALT DISNEY'S COMICS & STORIES and the second is UNCLE $CROOGE
ADVENTURES IN COLOR. The latter is faithfully reprinting, in color on white
oversized paper, squarebound, all of Carl Barks' original $crooge adventures.
The other is a hodge podge, but it does tend to contain the latest Don Rosa
story, as well as new Mickey and Van Horn Duck material. It, too, is pricey,
but squarebound on white paper with cardboard cover. I have to admit to not
wincing at spending that kind of money on this stuff anymore. Gladstone has
a tough enough time every month in putting this stuff out and not going
bankrupt due to the poor Duck fanbase in this country. And this stuff will
look great on my bookshelf in complete collections.
This is truly stuff for only the most serious of fans. It's not worth it,
otherwise. Although I should loudly recommend UNCLE $CROOGE ADVENTURES IN
COLOR BY DON ROSA Part Four. Why? It reprints, beautifully, my favorite
Uncle $crooge story of all-time, "His Majesty, McDuck." I can't rave enough
about this story, but it has everything, including history, adventure,
terrific cinematography, action, and humor. It'll set you back $9.95, but
you'll read it over and over again through the years.
... MARVEL AGE was still alive? Nowadays we have MARVEL VISION, which is a
mixed blessing. It has more letters of comment in there, which is a good
thing. And it has a good range of articles and interviews, some of which
come from the old MARVEL AGE (Marvel Reel News by Andy Mangels and Marvel
Chronicles, for two.) The only real problem with it is that it's
overdesigned. Say what you will about white backgrounds and straight black
type-face text in straight columns, but you could actually read it. Granted,
MARVEL VISION has gotten better at this as time has marched one, but I'm
turning into an old fogey. I just wish they would bring back the NEW TALENT
DEPARTMENT. That was always a lot of fun, especially in retrospect, when you
see some of the names that made it to those pages. And I really wish Mark
Gruenwald could still be writing his excellent column.
... Rock was young? Me and Suzie having so much fun. Holding hands and
skimming stones. [...] La la la la la la
